Sony Is Now Viewing The Playstation Vita As An Accessory Than A Standalone Console

After what is being considered by many to be one of Sony's biggest E3 debacles with regards to the Playstation Vita, Sony has announced they will approach the Vita in a different way.

SCEA President Andrew House spoke in length about the current sony consoles in an interview prior to the Sony press conference. Based upon his words, it seems as if Sony basically is almost completely changing the way they view the PS Vita.

Andrew House was quoted as saying "We've taken a more holistic view with our platforms. With remote play, Vita has now essentially, become an extender or an enhancer for the main platform for other rooms in the house, or when someone else wants to use the main screen"

Andrew House went on to speak about marketing the device to a younger audience, and embracing the Indie scene more. This news is beyond disappointing for every PS Vita owner. The system was launched to allow players to play PS3 quality games on the go, not to be an "enhancer for the main platform." Let us know what you think in the comments below.

  1. well the reason why he has thevitalounge is because he supports and loves the vita already. He just gave his take on the situation. No need to be disrespectful towards him or thevitalounge.

  2. The sly collection is by far the best collection on the Vita

  3. I don't think Sony ever actually cared about the Vita. That interview simply proved my suspicion.

  4. I try not to buy games until I beat a couple but I had to buy the sly collection on vita I had to my gamer bone won't stop nagging lol

  5. I hear ya. All of our wallets are hurting from jrpgs

  6. Very true. I believe Gamescom is where vita will get most of its announcements

  7. I completely agree, it is truly the best handheld to grace the market, and is my favorite console period. It is odd how Sony views the Vita now, but I believe in a way viewing it as an enhancer can very likely move Vitas which could help in getting third parties to develop for it.

  8. I don't doubt the vita and trust me when I am saying that this is my most favorite platform ever for a handheld lover like me, but I just don't like the way Sony is treating the vita. Why treat the vita like an extender when it cleary the best handheld ever and one with amazing amount of potential? *sigh* oh week there is still gamescon and tgs so I am still a bit optimistic.

  9. It is good as an accessory or enhancer, but not just as that. Players enjoy the second screen capabilities on the Vita. However it must still be considered its own console, with the second screen being an amazing addition

  10. With it potentially being bundled with ps4 it is a good move to view the system as an enhancer as well. However it is important to current Vita owners that it is not just an enhancer but a standalone console.

  11. I agree with most of that. I wouldn't worry too much. The system will still be supported, however it important to emphasize that many Vita owners did not purchase the system to be an "enhancer" for the PS4, but instead a standalone console

  12. Minecraft will definitely give Sony a base of which to use to market towards a younger demographic. By doing that it could very well move many systems, assuming that the ps vita version of Minecraft could very well be the definitve version

  13. These headlines about the PS Vita are sensationalistic.

The PS Vita has not really had great traction yet, and while that is not prone to changing randomly, putting focus on having the Vita as a second screen device is a genius move. It is an accessory AND a handheld console. It isn't a required part like the second screen for Wii U, and it doesn't quit being a handheld console. It is an independent device, and they said last year that all games for the PS4 would be possible to play via Remote Play on the PS Vita, as long as it doesn't require any special input other than the standard PS4 controller.

This is a positive thing that was announced long ago, just with a bad media angle that baited all the gamezines.

  14. That's why I sold mine months ago.

  15. I'm confident they will, however if they wait till then it means the games will more than likely come out in 2015.

  16. Heres hoping minecraft vita gives sony a reason to support it

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree cannt wait for more jrpgs my wallet cannt much more lol

  18. Well if the ps tv does well the ps vita should gain many more games

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am sure TGS will announce those release dates.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Precisely! If the playstation tv does well the Vita game releases will skyrocket hopefully.

  21. The sad thing here is if the Vita does "die" it's safe to say Sony will not ever make another portable

  22. There is nothing too much to worry about. Neither anything to be disappointed over. It is all just about a different proposition on how the device is being marketed based on how the market is accepting it. Vita is doing pretty decent in Japan. And with that said Japan alone in comparison definitely is a much more popular place that actually embrace portable gaming over any part of the world. So there isnt much to worry about AAA games still being develop for the system. As it definitely will. And games will still get ported, translated and etc etc. So just be happy with what you have, enjoy it and stop worrying too much about it.

If I knew that years ago I would not even bother to buy the Vita, #Sonytraitors #ImpeachSony #NoVitaNoBuy

  24. It still has life as a niche platform, and it still provides decent sells for Sony. Discarding it would be like discarding easy money. Bring the games and Vita owners will buy them

    ReplyDelete
  25. Right, most people bought the Vita as a console, one that was promising AAA quality on the go. Lets make sure they do not forget that

    ReplyDelete
  26. PS Now will bring many games to the Vita, however lets still continue to make sure sony supports the Vita

    ReplyDelete
  27. correct. Lets be more respectful

    ReplyDelete
  28. It is quite disappointing, sadly you cant play ps now without an internet connection. However I truly believe the vita still has a lot left in store for it

    ReplyDelete
  29. While im very disapointed with sony's conference, especially as they didn't give us release dates for Freedom Wars or Gravity Rush 2, I'm at least satisfied that were getting the Playstation TV; a system that I had given up on after reading about its sales in Japan.

  30. The Vita TV isn't going to kill the vita if anything it will incentavize developers to make more vita games. If anything expect less games that uses front and rear touchscreen; is that really so bad?

  31. Lets not be so hostile. Paul Murphy is big in the Vita community, he posted a discussion. Not hate mail

    ReplyDelete
  32. It has been dead for quite a while now. These last outings are just Sony's absolute desperation for the platform. They're basically the last few spasms after death.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "Big in the Vita community"

As if that means something xD

    ReplyDelete
  34. If this sells more Vitas it is not "disappointing"

    ReplyDelete
  35. Woah no need to be rude he meant no harm.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's just sad... I bought the vita since I love handheld gaming more than console gaming. Remote play and PS now are amazing I'll admit but they don't exactly fill the whole handheld gaming concept. I mean can I remote play if I am not at home or can I play ps now without a internet connection? Plus I live in a country with horrible internet speeds so those two features are even more useless for me. Idk, why can't Sony respect the vita as a handheld, an amazing one to boot.

  37. ITT:
Apparently you can't comment on internet posts if you run your own site.
If you think that @VitaBoys is better, then good for you. I'm glad you are able to get your Vita news from somewhere, and I genuinely wish them luck. The more Vita sites, the better for vita owners.
I'm just not sure why I deserved this hostility, but don't worry. I'll go back to my inferior site now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Of course I will be able to enjoy AAA games on the go with PlayStation now without an internet connection.. oh wait I can't, so what's the point? I bought the vita since I love handheld gaming more than console gaming and vita is a handheld not an accessory. Why is it that Sony can't respect that?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Couldn't said it better.....I'm gonna play my psp,ps1 and indies and my jrpgs. If Sony does decided to make another handheld I'm gonna wait a year or look at the launch titles first

    ReplyDelete
  40. get off this site and go back to your stupid vita lounge dont hat on vitaboys because thier site is better

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think Playstation TV is going to kill the Vita all together, because most use it for remote play when the tv is consumed. Now that you can stream into any other TV in the house it's over for Vita.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I didn't post to be hostile, and I think you'll find that we do more to promote the Vita than many others do, but if you don't visit again that's your prerogative, I suppose.
I suppose because I run a different Vita site, I'm not welcome here. Fair enough.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I thought comments were for discussing or posting opinions on?
I haven't posted the article because I don't think that a) it's particularly helpful or b)anything new. But there you go, attack my site when I wasn't hostile.

  44. Wait till playstation now kicks in, then we vita owners can enjoy the AAA games. It's a shame that sony is giving up on us because I love my vita.

SHUT UP! I hate losers like you!!!! listen we didn't buy it for remote play and no AAA games. How is this for fair I wasted 250 dollars on this

    ReplyDelete
  51. To be fair, this isn't exactly new information. He's explaining the point of remote play. We already knew that third party AAA titles we unlikely.
The console quality gaming on the go aspect has long been dropped.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Why would they do this? They want the vita to sell well but aren't willing to do anything with it and it pisses me off so much.

I've had my vita for 2 whole years and this was probably Sony last chance for a lot of people to get them interested in the vita as a Console, not as a accessory.

    ReplyDelete
  53. definitely. Sony all we want is love

  54. this is purely despicable. COME ON SONY!!!
