There Is No Reason To Be Upset Over The PS Vita's E3, Heres Why

It is not an overstatement to say Sony completely angered Vita fans at this years E3. With very few and disappointing announcements, it seemed as if Sony had forgotten the PS Vita altogether during their press conference. To make matters worse they announced the most requested game for Vita, Final Fantasy Type-0, and then announced that it was a mistake.

So yes, there are plenty of reason for the Vita community to be upset or angered. However there is absolutely no reason for fans to give up. Why, because the Vita doesn't usually get a good showing at E3 anyways. I distinctly remember watching the entire Sony press conference at E3 last year, and being beyond disappointed. I felt the same way many fans do today, "oh sony has given up on the vita, and "oh, why can't we get any games." I was prepared to put away my Vita for a while.

Following that E3, Gamescom came around I hesitated but eventually decided that I would watch the conference to see what Sony would do. They amazed me, they dropped the Vita Price, and announced Borderlands 2, and many more announcements came along as well. In fact look think about this, most of the big games you love to play on the Vita right now, were announced at Gamescom. Including, Killzone Mercenary, Tearaway, Fez, and of course Borderlands 2. Huge games coming down the pipeline for Vita were announced at Gamescom not E3, like Minecraft, Hotline Miami 2, and Muraski Baby!

The point is the Vita always gets better treatment at Gamescom, which by the way is only two months away. We cannot forget that Sony has two other consoles to worry about as well, one of which just launched not even a few months ago. It is understandable that Sony would dedicate the biggest event in gaming towards their newest console. If Gamescom came around and nothing got announced fans might have a reason to be concerned. However for now lets wait out this bumpy week. Hold on till Gamescom, and enjoy the expansive list of games that the Vita has already coming down the pipeline.

  1. I will tell you this: In a 2-month time period a lot of things can happen. sony thinks they've done a great job with their ps4 and that its sales numbers showing the ps4 outsells the xb1 every single month prove it. So they're now like "ok, ps4 is all good.. lets get the ps4 out of the way for a moment and toss Vita gamers a bone to shut 'em up at Gamescom".
But if microsoft manages to do it right in that time, trust me, you'll see NOTHING differently as to what just happened at this year's E3.

Additionally the Vita Nation has to deal with the second-guessing treatment. Vita started behind the PS3 because of the 'transition to the next gen' and sony had to keep binging the greatest games to it 'in order to stay relevant' against the competition; Now the Vita is behind the ps4 because of the same exact thing.
If you love the Vita, then you shouldn't be glad just because there is a new game to play, you should be requesting ATTITUDE from sony or more specifically scea, in order to better support the device in the US. Supporting the Vita goes beyond your thirst for new games.
Or are you going to tell me that when yoshida runs his mouth to say the Vita is meant to be treated as a companion device or a PSNow terminal, you're with him? Doesn't it bother you when he says in an interview that 'he's happy because people have been using the Vita as a companion device, so that offload the pressure to make new Vita games"?

  2. I'm going to stop you right there sulpheed on the comment: "Sony will do anything even kill the Vita if they must to make the PS4 the best selling console in the world." What is a better console than the PS4? Certainly not the WII?! In my personal opinion, Microsoft messed up their opportunity with the Xbox One. PS4's sales can prove that. I also do not believe that Sony would try and kill something that is integrated into the PS4, because that could provide something different down the road that Microsoft will not be able to offer with the Xbox One.

  5. Very Well said. I couldn't possibly agree with you more

  6. That is quite presumptuous. You don't really know if Gamescom or TGS wont have anything for the Vita, I however do know of a couple titles to be announced there. Plus I can guarantee that Gravity Rush 2 wont be a ps4 exclusive. That is a promise

  7. Right, I agree. It is a better show in terms of games announced.

  8. I think it's only "better" because of the titles mentioned, not better in time/focus. Though TGS is absolutely a Vita show, thanks to third parties who work on it. Regardless of what Sony does at previous events, as well as TGS itself. If there's new titles that are exciting for Vita at TGS, they will be shown.

  9. So basically: What most of the people not busy with playing victims were saying. Even Brohei himself has said that Sony has something in store for Gamescom and TGS.

Looking at the situation now: They have been too slow for marketing Vita to do anything. And then is the point of E3, which is to grab as much sure money and attention possible. PS4 is still enjoying a high-note, so bumbing that up was the best choice from the business standpoint.

TGS and Gamescom are indefinitely less about dick-waggling and shiny, more about games. Let's hear the good news there, ok?Ok.

  13. Sorry but this article was wrong !!,Gamecom and TGS will have nothing for vita because this is the first year of ps4.More than that ps4's selling poor in japan right now,so no hope for vita.i dont want to see TGS 2014, i has a bad feeling that Gravity rush 2 will come exclusive to ps4 just like FF agito.Sony will do anything even kill the vita if they must to make ps4 become the best selling console in the world.
I will never buy your ps4 sony.

  15. Thank you so much for this article. I am guilty from this event as well. We will just have to wait and see at Gamescom and TGS. I do still think they should of made a better attempt to market Freedom Wars. With a heavy emphasis on multiplayer, it would of been the perfect game to market the Vita with. But once again thank you for this article.

  16. Here this. The only reason why the Ps Vita isn't selling is because Sony isn't willing to advertise the Ps Vita. Sony won't get off of it's lazy butt to advertise the Ps Vita. This is why Sony's Playsation Vita isn't selling.

  22. Right, TGS also has much more in store for Vita as well. I thought I would mention the closer conference.
Some fans enjoy F2P, I don't really like them but I know many fans who still haven't put down destiny of spirits

    ReplyDelete
  23. of course, fans should know that one bad E3 is not the whole story.

Whats so disappointing is when sony said the vita would just be an extender! Who would not be angry about that?!

    ReplyDelete
  26. you forgot TGS!
also people hate F2P games on vita ? why !? did they even tried Destiny of Spirits ?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for this. Just lifted my mood :)

  29. Sadly we wont be able to get that. Vita owners will have two things. 1. various releases throughout they year. 2. small showings at Gamescom and TGS. However it is accurate to say that the Vita does receive better treatment at Gamescom and TGS than it does at E3.

You know this week has been so bad for Vita. But if you look at it historically the Vita has always gotten more love at Gamescom. This is enough proof for me.
